What is the Cybrarium?

The Cybrarium, located at 80 West Mowry Drive in downtown Homestead, is a one-of-a-kind library that offers an exciting blend of cutting-edge technology, programs, workshops, as well as books, DVDs, videos games, and more. The Cybrarium features a virtual reality space, its own theatrical stage, and several meeting and study spaces.

 

Is the Cybrarium a Branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library System (MDPLS)?

No. In 2019, the Homestead City Council and Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners voted to establish the Homestead Cybrarium as a municipal library, replacing the existing Homestead Branch Library.  MDPLS closed the Homestead Branch, located at 700 N. Homestead Blvd., on March 20, 2021.

 

How do I get a Homestead Cybrarium library card?

All Miami-Dade County residents are eligible for a free Cybrarium card account regardless of age. A temporary Cybrarium card can be obtained by applying online. Proof of eligibility will need to be presented in-person at the Cybrarium to obtain a permanent card. 

 

Can non-residents get a Homestead Cybrarium library card?

Yes. Visitors and or individuals who do not live, own property, work, or attend school in Miami-Dade County, may purchase an annual non-resident Cybrarium card for $65 to enjoy access to all of the Cybrarium’s materials and services.

 

Can I still use my current Miami-Dade Public Library System (MDPLS) Library card?

Yes. Homestead residents will still be eligible to continue using their MDPLS card at all MDPLS locations. To obtain a free Miami-Dade Public Library System card, go to ecard.mdpls.org or e-mail MDPLS at customercare@mdpls.org.

 

Can I use the Miami-Dade Public Library System (MDPLS) library card at the Homestead Cybrarium?

No. The cards are different and you will need to apply at both locations.  An MDPLS card will not work at the Cybrarium and vice-versa.

 

Can residents outside of Homestead apply for a Cybrarium Card?

Yes. All Miami Dade County residents can apply for a City of Homestead Library card.  Visitors and or individuals who do not live, own property, work, or attend school in Miami Dade County, may purchase a non-resident Cybrarium card for $65 to enjoy access to all of the Cybrarium’s materials and services for one year.

 

As a Homestead resident, can I apply for a Miami-Dade Public Library System (MDPLS) library card?

Yes. The Miami-Dade Public Library System and the City of Homestead have entered into a reciprocal borrowing agreement which allows the residents of Homestead to apply for a free MDPLS Card for use at MDPLS locations and online at MDPLS.org.

 

If I check out items at a Miami-Dade Public Library System branch, can I return those items to the Homestead Cybrarium?

No. Items that are checked out at an MDPLS branch must be returned to a branch of the MDPLS. The Homestead Cybrarium is not an MDPLS branch.

 

If I check out items at the Homestead Cybrarium, can I return those items to a branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library System?

No. Items checked out at the Cybrarium must be returned to the Cybrarium.

 

What MDPLS branch locations are closest to the City of Homestead?

The MDPLS has a convenient tool on their web site which allows you to search for locations.   Currently their closest locations to Homestead are the: Naranja Branch, South Dade Regional and Palmetto Bay.
